Larry Van Kriedt (* 1954 in California , USA ) was the first bassist in the Australian hard rock band AC / DC , which was founded in 1973 by Malcolm Young . Besides the bass , Kriedt can also play other instruments such as the saxophone .

Early life

Larry was born into a musical family that was based in San Francisco at the time . His father is a well-known jazz musician named David Van Kriedt . His whole life was all about music . He started playing the double bass at the age of nine and the guitar at the age of twelve. He started singing and playing the saxophone when he was 15. He studied jazz, harmony, composing and musical arrangements with his father.

In 1969 , at the age of 15, he moved to Sydney , Australia with his family . There he met Angus Young shortly after his arrival. This brought him to a prelude to Malcolm Young, who wanted to start the band AC / DC. After successfully auditioning, he became a bass player and one of the founding members of AC / DC.

With AC / DC

Kriedt was only four months with AC / DC, when he was replaced by Neil Smith in February 1974 . However, he appeared at some early club appearances every now and then, as his successor was often prevented. His final replacement was then Rob Bailey .

According to AC / DC

After the short time with AC / DC he experimented with different styles of music as a musician and producer. From 1997 to 1999 he lived in Morocco , where he often appeared on radio and small TV shows. Today Van Kriedt works as a jazz musician.

In 2007 Van Kriedt worked with Paul Agbakoba under the name The LPs.
