Lars Wendt (born October 5, 1992 in Kiel , Schleswig-Holstein ) is a German basketball player . After winning the runner-up in the junior basketball league (NBBL), the former youth national player began his professional career in teams in the 2nd basketball league , before moving to the first division team Eisbären Bremerhaven in 2016 after being promoted to the first division with Science City Jena . Lars Wendt has a twin brother with his brother Ole who also played in the top German division.

Career

Lars Wendt started playing basketball with his twin brother Ole in his hometown of Kiel and then played for the Itzehoe Eagles until 2008 . In 2008 both switched to the youth boarding school of the then first division club Paderborn Baskets at the Reismann-Gymnasium Paderborn . There they played in the youth basketball league for the U19 selection of the Paderborn Baskets and in their first season they reached the TOP4 final tournament in Berlin with the other selection players Robert Huelsewede and Dominik Malinowski in 2009 . After a victory over the previously only title holder Team Urspring in the semifinals, the final of the championship was lost against the offspring of host ALBA Berlin , who only took the lead in the last two minutes thanks to the outstanding future men's national player Niels Giffey for the first time. In the following two years they also reached the TOP4 tournament, but were eliminated in the semifinals against Team Urspring. Wendt was a member of the northern selection of the NBBL All-Star team several times , which competed against the southern selection in the prelude to the BBL All-Star Games . With the German U18 youth selection , Lars Wendt reached a 13th place at the U18 European Championship 2010 and was relegated to Division A of the 16 best European teams.

After Lars Wendt had been active in the 2009/10 season with a double license for the cooperation partner of the Paderborn Baskets and regional league team TV Salzkotten , he moved up to the squad of the Paderborn Baskets in 2010, which had meanwhile been relegated to the second highest division, 2nd Bundesliga ProA . While his twin brother Ole was able to continuously develop his achievements, Lars's achievements stagnated in his second season in the ProA 2011/12 when the Paderborn team returned to the first division as fifth in the main round after being eliminated in the first play-off round for promotion missed. The twin brothers then moved to the edge of the Ruhr area ; While Ole went up a class and played for the first division team Phoenix Hagen , Lars went one class deeper into the ProB to the former first division team from Schwelm , where he played again with Dominik Malinowski. There Lars Wendt was one of the top performers in the ProB 2012/13 , when the Schwelmer, first in the main round of the northern group, reached the runner-up in the play-offs and the right to promotion to the ProA. Due to a lack of infrastructure and economic efficiency, however, the Schwelmer decided not to return to the second highest division. Lars Wendt, on the other hand, returned to the ProA after signing a contract with the former first division club Science City from Jena . After a fifth place in 2014 and a fourth place in 2015, the Thuringians failed twice in the first play-off round to return to the top division, in which the club had already played once in the 2007/08 season . In the ProA 2015/16 it was enough for the longed-for promotion when they moved into the play-off final series as runner-up in the main round. In the final series you could finally even defeat the first and co-promoted SC Rasta Vechta after adding back and forth and win the championship of the second division. Wendt, however, switched to the new league competitor Eisbären from Bremerhaven , for whom he will complete his first season in the top German league, after achieving promotion . In February 2018 there was a separation between Wendt and the polar bears. Wendt had recently only played a subordinate role in the team.

During the summer break of 2018, he joined FC Schalke 04 (promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA). Due to injury, Wendt only made five point games for S04 in the 2018/19 season.
