Building history and architecture

Floor plan before the expansion

The church was built at the end of the 12th century, initially in the Romanesque style, as a single-bay hall building with transept , single-bay choir , semicircular apse and slightly retracted west tower . The transept resulted in a cross-shaped floor plan.

From 1890 to 1892 the church was redesigned in a new Romanesque style. The transverse bays were extended to side aisles, so that the floor plan today corresponds to a three-aisled hall church . In addition, a new, westwork-like tower was built and a sacristy was added.

The ships are equipped with domed groin vaults on round arched belt and blind arches . Windows and entrances are predominantly round-arched, the sound holes divided into two with small central columns. A tympanum with a cross is located above the main portal in the north side of the old transept .

Furnishing

The oldest work of art preserved in the church is the late Gothic , with pointed arches and spiers provided tabernacle , which on its gable Lamb of God is shown. Four sechzehnarmige chandeliers from bronze are from the Renaissance .

Most of the furnishings, however, date from the 1960s. Altar and baptismal font were from 1962 Theodor Henke created the pulpit of sandstone dates from 1968 and the organ was in 1969 by the Berlin organ workshop Karl Schuke built.

Bells

There are three bells in the tower of the Laurentiuskirche . The oldest dates from 1791 and strikes the note f '. The two newer bronze bells with the tones es 'and as' were cast in Karlsruhe in 1989 .
