About this picture

Lavertezzo is a municipality in the Verzasca Valley in the Verzasca district . It belongs to the Locarno district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . Riazzino Piano , an exclave in the Magadino plain, belongs to the municipality of Lavertezzo .

Community merger

On February 8, 2004, the merger of the municipality Lavertezzo with Brione Verzasca, Corippo, Frasco, Gerra Verzasca, Gordola, Sonogno, Tenero-Contra and Vogorno failed in the referendum, Lavertezzo approved with 67%. On April 14, 2013 Lavertezzo was the only municipality with 58% to reject a merger of its Lavertezzo Valle faction with Brione Verzasca, Corippo, Frasco, Gerra Valle (fraction of Cugnasco-Gerra), Sonogno and Vogorno, with Lavertezzo Valle himself agreeing with 64% , whereas the exclave Riazzino (Lavertezzo Piano) was the decisive factor for the rejection with 69% no. On August 25, 2015, the federal court ruled that a municipality can be forced to merge, but not to subdivide its territory. The valley merger in the Verzasca valley had thus failed again. The canton then created new legislation and the municipalities decided to merge in 2018, which will come into force in 2020.

geography

Aerial photo (1946)

The place is a good starting point to get to the Pincascia , Carecchio , d'Agro and d'Orgnana valleys . The Ponte dei Salti bridge from the 17th century crosses the Verzasca with two elegant arches. It is also known as the Ponte Romano ("Roman Bridge").

The industrial village of Riazzino is located over 10 km from Lavertezzo in the Magadino plain. These are the former winter pastures and vineyards of the Lavertezzo farmers. They practiced a pronounced transhumance with seasonal residences on the edge of the Magadino plain ( 300  m ), in the valley village ( 550  m ), on the Maiensässen (Monti, 1000  m ) and the Alps ( 1800  m ). In addition to the main town Lavertezzo and Riazzino, the municipality includes the hamlets of Aquino, Rancone and Sambugaro.

The municipality of Lavertezzo borders on Frasco in the north, Personico in the north-east, Preonzo in the east, Iragna in the south-east, Lodrino in the south-south-east, Vogorno in the south, Corippo in the south-south-west, Avegno Gordevio in the south-west, Brione in the west ( Verzasca) and in the northwest to the exclave Gerra (Verzasca) of the municipality of Cugnasco-Gerra . The Riazzino Piano exclave borders on Cugnasco-Gerra to the north and east, an exclave of Locarno to the south and Gordola to the east .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1327 under the then name Laverteze . A bronze ax was found here in 1913. In the Middle Ages Lavertezzo, like Squadra, probably belonged to the great vicinia Verzasca. The population changes residence between Lavertezzo and the Terricciuole area, which was under the joint jurisdiction of Locarno , Minusio and Mergoscia . In 1920 part of the Terricciuole Lavertezzo was incorporated.
