Les Avirons is a French commune with 11,345 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the overseas department of Réunion . The inhabitants call themselves les Avironnais .

geography

Les Avirons is located in the southwest of the island and has a share of the sea coast and the mountain range. The neighboring municipalities are Saint-Leu , Cilaos and Saint-Louis . A small lake , the Etang-Salé , also borders Les Avirons. At around 900 m above sea level, Les Avirons also includes the village of Le Tévelave .

history

The settlement began around 1719. Since January 8, 1894, it has been a separate municipality. The area previously belonged to Saint-Louis . On April 22 of the same year a missionary called Père Martin made a guest appearance .

Infrastructure

In Les Avirons there is a college , a lycee and a technical college.
