Salazie is a French commune with 7,312 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the overseas department of Réunion .

geography

Salazie is located in the center of the island of Reunion. The neighboring communities of Salazie are in the north Sainte-Marie , in the northeast Sainte-Suzanne and Saint-André , in the east Bras-Panon , in the southeast Saint-Benoît , in the southwest Cilaos and Saint-Paul (point of contact), in the west La Possession and im Northwest Saint-Denis .

history

In 1899 Salazie became a French community. It used to be a haven for ex-slaves. The village of Hell-Bourg, which belongs to the municipality, is one of the most beautiful villages in France .
