The phylloxera crisis in viticulture, the increasing mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of small farms led to a lack of jobs in the 20th century, which in turn led to the migration of several families to the cities ( rural exodus ).
economy
For centuries, people lived as self-sufficient farmers from agriculture, which to a large extent also included livestock. One of the few tradable goods was charcoal . Since the 1960s tourism has also played a not unimportant role for the income of the municipality in the form of the rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ) .
history
The region around Les Eyzies is considered to be one of the cultural centers of prehistory; Groups of hunters and gatherers roamed the Vézère valley and even temporarily settled under some rock overhangs ( abris ) . In 1905 the former municipality of Tayac was renamed Les Eyzies-de-Tayac . In 1973 it was united with the former municipality of Sireuil as Commune associée and has been called Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil since then .
The decree of October 17, 2018 established the incorporation of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil as a Commune déléguée together with the former municipalities of Manaurie and Saint-Cirq to form the Commune nouvelle Les Eyzies with effect from January 1, 2019 .
