history

A preparatory committee was formed as early as 1897. The year 1905 was chosen to hold the world exhibition, the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Belgian state . In 1903 the construction of the exhibition halls began.

39 countries took part in the world exhibition, including France , Germany , England , Japan , Turkey , Persia , China , Russia and the USA . The exhibition area in Parc de la Boverie , at the confluence of the Maas and Ourthe rivers , covered 21 hectares . Around 50 pavilions from nations and private companies were built on it and 15,000 exhibitors were represented at the exhibition.

The innovations presented included a French-made cinematograph and a show on the importance of fingerprints in criminology . The Galerie des Machines was dedicated to technical progress in Belgium . In the Palais de Beaux Arts mainly works from France and the USA were shown.
