The Expo 2016 Antalya was an international horticultural exhibition that in from 23 April to 30 October 2016 Antalya in Turkey took place. As an exhibition recognized by the BIE and classified by the AIPH in the A1 category, it followed the Floriade 2012 in Venlo in the Netherlands . The official theme of the Expo 2016 was: "Flowers and Children" and the motto of the exhibition: "A green world for future generations" ( Turkish : "Gelecek Nesiller için Yeşil Bir Dünya").

The exhibition site was located in Aksu , approx. 18 km northeast of the city center of Antalya and approx. 8 km northeast of Antalya Airport . It extended over an area of ​​112 hectares .

Expo Square and Turkcell Expo Tower

The landmark of Expo 2016 was the Turkcell Expo Tower , a 100.7 meter high observation tower. This tower, designed by the architects Serdar Kızıltaş and Zeynep Melike Atay, was inspired by the shape of a palm tree with three fan- shaped leaves and was supposed to be a reference to Hadrian's Gate in Antalya, which consists of three arches. The tower is made of reinforced concrete and has a diameter of 10.40 meters at the base. The 17 floors and the viewing platform can be reached with three elevators. The name-giving sponsor was the Turkish mobile operator Turkcell .

Museum of Agriculture and Biodiversity

This part of the exhibition was supported by the fertilizer manufacturer Gübretaş and showed in a guided tour through five presentation rooms an insight into the beginnings of the settlement history of mankind, the reclamation of the soil and the breeding of plants and animals for the needs of the people as well as the importance of the conservation of the Biodiversity . He gave an outlook on the future of agriculture.

Kids Science and Technology Center

This exhibition area, sponsored by Turkish Airlines , included various simulators , experiments and a planetarium . It was particularly aimed at children and young people in order to impart basic knowledge of natural sciences such as astronomy and biology to them in a playful and entertaining way .
