Liliane Csuka (born January 5, 1935 in Zurich ; also Liliane Levy) is a Swiss artist and art patron.

life and work

From 1951 to 1954 she graduated from the commercial school in Zurich and from 1972 to 1974 the F + F school for experimental design . From 1980 to 1985 she was also on the board of the F + F school. While she was still studying at F + F, she began an international artistic career, for example by participating in exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Zürich (1976, 1978) or at the Venice Biennale (1976). She realized numerous installations in exhibition rooms, outdoors and as Land Art . Also central to her work are larger sculptures and smaller objects, all of which she produced herself, often using experimental methods, such as mixing foam rubber and concrete, tonal (a clay mass) and found objects, or with recycled material such as newspapers or plastic. The “erotic objects” (1974–1992), in which the male genitals address machismo in society, form an important group of works .

At Csuka, murals are often not flat, but continue the sculptural work. She realized some of these picture objects with found objects and, since the series Symphonie internationale (1986/87) also with paper strings, i. H. strings stuck with magazine text, which she sticks to a surface and thus creates a multi-layered text image. In the case of the symphony international in record form, in other works in very different forms. As early as the 1970s she made large-scale drawings, in the early 1980s she painted with unmixed color pigments , later she worked with cut-out photocopies, made photographs and videos, and showed performances. From 1974 to 1980 and from 2004 to 2011 Csuka was a member of the Ateliergemeinschaft Spinnerei Wettingen , which showed various exhibitions in Switzerland. From 1981 to 2013, Csuka was also a «part-donor» of Peter Trachsel's Hasena Artists' Association , which was based in Zurich and, from 1987, in Dalvazza / Küblis .

From 1955 to 1983 she was married to Henry Levy and they had two children (Simone, Ivan). They lived in Herrliberg since 1957 , from 1977 to 1982 in Brissenden House in Bethersden / Kent ( Great Britain ), where they also offered residency grants for artists. After traveling, Csuka lived from 1989 to 2004 near Omaha Beach in Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes near Port-en-Bessin-Huppain in France . She has been living in Zurich again since 2004.
