The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority. This list reflects the update status from September 12, 2018 and contains 123 architectural monuments.

Ensembles

Old town Burgkunstadt  • Ebneth Castle and Manor

Ensemble Altstadt Burgkunstadt

The ensemble ( location ) consists of the two areas of the historic old town, i.e. H. the upper town, which includes the former castle area and annexed areas on a spur almost 30 meters above the Obermaingraben, and the lower town on the edge of the river valley. As excavations by the State Office for Monument Preservation in 1975 revealed, a mighty and extensive castle complex was built around 830. In the following century the castle was owned by the Counts of Schweinfurt . A layer of fire is interpreted as an indication of the destruction of the castle in the course of the arguments between the counts and King Heinrich II in 1003. After the Schweinfurt count family died out in 1057, Burgkunstadt, first mentioned as "Kunstat" in 1059, came into the possession of the Bamberg Church . The city had the function of the seat of a bailiff and a prince-bishop's bailiff . These administrative seats in the castle area, the town hall and the market square with the parish church of Sankt Heinrich and Kunigunde in the area of the former outer bailey formed the fortified upper town, while the lower town on the country road at the foot of the sandstone cliff was mainly used by the Jewish population, which can be proven since 1298, in most periods Community was shaped. Their supra-local importance was not only reflected in their size, but also, until 1914, by the seat of a district rabbinate. The lower town burned down in 1584, the upper town in 1640. The castle area increasingly lost its importance and by the end of the 19th century - apart from the bailiwick, which was expanded in 1762 - gradually older buildings. With the dissolution of the bishopric of Bamberg in 1803, the city came under the Kingdom of Bavaria . The Penzertorturm was demolished in 1816, the Lendtor and the Kronacher gate tower in 1872. The connection of the place to the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Eisenbahn in 1846 is to be regarded as an essential factor of the industrialization . In 1888 the first large-scale shoe factory was founded. The shoe industry shaped the city until 1990, from which a well-known mail order company emerged in 1925 and 1959. The former castle area is mainly used and structurally dominated by the local site of the Dillinger Regens-Wagner-Stiftung, established in 1894, a care facility for people with disabilities and those in need. The construction of new accommodation, community and therapy buildings that look far into the surrounding landscape continued until the beginning of the 21st century. The upper town is spatially dominated by the former castle area. The solitary buildings of the town hall from 1689/90 (expanded in 1978), the former Redwitz Castle, the Vogtei and the almost castle-like, but much younger and higher building complex of the Regens-Wagner Foundation are located on its site . Connected via the Vogtei street, the market square opens to the east with a trapezoidal shape. The representative buildings are lined up, often gable-free and with visible framework, to form walls. The majority of these buildings can be classified in the core of the surface substance in the 18th century. The outward appearance of the Catholic parish church is mainly due to its late and neo-baroque architectural elements. The regular floor plan continues in the two access roads Kronacher Tor and Penzertor to the east. Smaller streets complete the upper town area to the north, east and south. In the east, areas in front of the city fortifications have been added to the ensemble. In these back streets and alleys, a large number of historical barns and combined farm buildings bear witness to the former importance of this branch of the economy. The only passable internal connection between the upper and lower town is the steep Lend alley, originally also provided with a gate in the upper town wall. The structure of the lower town is largely shaped by Kulmbacher Strasse. Its course is wedged between the sandstone cliffs of the Obermaingraben and the floodplain of the river. The building stock is heterogeneous, a large number of buildings with exposed frameworks, eaves building types from the 18th century with hipped roof and more recent buildings from the late 19th and 20th centuries characterize the street space between the plan and the southern city exit at the former Klausenkapelle. Smaller side streets or alleys in the north and east have supplementary functions, but often also include essential testimony values, as the former Jewish school building on Feuerweg shows. Since the former floodplain area of the Main is now built on and the Mühlbach has been piped, the southwestern edge of the monument ensemble is now formed by a rear parcel boundary and in sections by a height offset. Ensemble of Ebneth Castle and Manor

The ensemble ( location ) consists of the castle area and the narrow manor area. It shapes the basic structure of the entire locality and includes its northern part. The Ebneth manor, which formerly belonged to the imperial knighthood of the canton of mountains, was first mentioned in the 14th century as the property of the Marschälke von Ebneth . Since the second half of the 15th century at the latest, it has been known as a complex divided into two by inheritance. The core building of the current castle was built in 1490 and has retained little of its early days due to destruction in the Peasants' War and a fire in 1649. In the years 1733/34, the castle and estate, which had been reunited by inheritance, came to the von Seckendorff family . The inventory description at this point in time shows that the entire complex of the castle property was to be perceived as an ensemble, although at that time it was a two-part, albeit spatially connected, complex. The former Saxon-Coburg fiefdom included the location of the burned down and not rebuilt castle in the area of the terrace south of the still existing building, the moat, the central square of the courtyard, a garden with a cellar (today's property no. 14), a “stone Stadel ”and the“ new stables ”, a building from 1724, which today is structurally connected to the younger manor house (no. 16). In addition, the so-called Georg Sebastianischen Marschalkhauses, located between the new stables and the castle, belonged to the Saxon-Coburg fiefdom. The existing castle, rebuilt in 1656/57, a brewery, a hunter's house and barns belonged to the second fiefdom transferred to the bishopric of Bamberg. Since 1733, the character and scope of the castle and estate area has hardly changed. Important structural changes include the conversion of the Georg Sebastianisches Marschalkhaus into a chapel in 1749 and various new buildings and conversions from the late 18th to early 20th centuries in the area of the estate. The structural traces of the last-mentioned period also characterize the Ebneth estate outside of the monument ensemble. Immediately on today's main road are the farm buildings of the manor, to the northeast, with indirect access, the castle with the associated facilities. From the main street, the access to the farm buildings Steinerner Stadel and the Neue Stallung leads to the Biedermeier administrative building (no.14) built in 1822, before reaching the smaller space between the administrative building (no.16) and the chapel building, which was designated in 1796. The chapel room located on the upper floor is accessible via a flight of stairs on the north gable, and is thus oriented towards the driveway to the existing castle. It leads over an arched bridge built in 1774 to the manorial house, which was rebuilt in 1656/57 on the fief of the Bamberg monastery. The gable-end building consists of two parts, which are staggered in height and storey. Ditches, terraces and ramparts emphasize the representative character of the building, which despite its secluded location forms the center of the manor and palace area. In addition to the objects mentioned, the old, expanded brewery and the former Jägerhaus (No. 20), today due to renovations in the 19th and 20th centuries, are to be mentioned of the formerly associated buildings. Century called forester's house. The western barn was replaced by a new building at the beginning of the 20th century. A dog kennel with a wooden shed and a 19th century bakery complement the existing buildings in the entire estate area. The Schlossgut Ebneth with its significant individual objects and the little impaired overall impression is an important historical testimony. The traceability of the inventory from the 18th century is also remarkable, which documents the entire functional and economic structure of a former knight or castle estate in an excellent way becomes. In a document in the Ebneth archive it was recorded about him: "All where the maleficent persons of the central rule Weismain were always delivered." The stone thus served as the place where the tithe was handed over . D-4-78-116-95 BW

Rock cellar The numerous rock cellars in the hillside forest west of the Burgkunstadter district of Ebneth, probably already carved into the sandstone cliffs around 1790, are located in an approximately 250 m long and 50 m wide area with rocks protruding about 5 m above ground level. Because of its large number, the area is also known as the “rock labyrinth”. The cellars were used to store beer and food for decades until the middle of the 20th century. Nowadays, some of them are still used as storage space. In past centuries, the area also served as a leisure location and summer cellar for the local population and had a free bowling alley and a shooting range. D-4-78-116-94 Rock cellar

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
