Triangulation column
Triangulation column (Map) marked 1878 (triangulation column) Second order station, significant testimony to geodesy of the 19th century, of significance in terms of surveying history.

Monument text:
The rock formation popularly referred to as the White Stone in the topographical maps carries station 128-Steinkamm, the location of which is described by the Steinkamm-Felsen west of Chemnitz-Thumer Straße near Gelenau near Nagel.
The property owner, the landowner C. Vieweg in Auerbach, issued an oral building permit. Nagel specifies the Auerbach district as the location, but the forest property with the station is now part of the Gelenau district. The station is easy to miss, because the rock, which is only about 2 m high, on which the column stands, hardly protrudes over the surrounding undergrowth. The station is not at the highest point on the hilltop.
In the period from 1862 to 1890, a land survey was carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony, in which two triangular networks were formed. On the one hand, there is the network for grade measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony (network I. class / order) with 36 points and the royal Saxon triangulation (network II. Class / order) with 122 points. This national survey was led by Christian August Nagel , according to which the triangulation columns are also referred to as "Nagelsche columns". This surveying system was one of the most modern layer networks in Germany. The surveying columns set for this purpose remained almost entirely in their original locations. They are an impressive testimony to the history of land surveying in Germany and in Saxony. The system of surveying columns of both orders is in its entirety a cultural monument of supraregional importance. (LfD / 2014)

Post mileage
Post mileage Fritz-Reuter-Strasse
(map)
marked 1723 Copy of a half-mile column, of significance in terms of traffic history.

Monument text:
Copy of a half-mile column from Rochlitzer Porphyrtuff (original sandstone) with the row number 42, the year 1723 and the post horn mark as well as various inscriptions on the distance. It was originally located on the B 95 at Gasthaus Besenschänke and was replaced in 1996 by a (faulty) copy in the immediate vicinity of the original location. The original piece is owned by the municipality of Gelenau.
In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679 - 1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km).
This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system. (LfD / 2013).

Former sanatorium, with enclosure and park (garden monument), inside pavilion Fritz-Reuter-Strasse 11
(map)
marked 1898 Historicizing plastered building with tower, beautiful gazebo, largely original appearance, significance in terms of building history and local history.
  • Two-storey solid plastered building with stone plinth, heterogeneous floor plan and roof landscape, turrets with weather vane, wooden veranda, including some ornament on the ground floor, remnants of the interior fittings (including doors) still preserved, renovated, wooden gazebo on a solid base.
  • Villa / former convalescent home (villa garden / country house garden, garden house):

The property was built in 1898 as a villa with a large garden. In 1909 it was converted into a convalescent home for the Chemnitz General Health Insurance Fund. This use continued even during the GDR era.

  • Enclosure:
    • Historical fencing on the southern section of the eastern property boundary with a gate system (plastered pillars with plastic sandstone covers, historical lanterns replaced in a modern form, side grilles restored, central gate grilles missing), laterally adjoining fence fields in simple shapes (analogous to the historical stock of the middle fence fields supplemented), plastered pillars with brick covers,
    • Remaining fencing of the property modern (wire mesh fence).
  • Development:
    • Forecourt between the villa and the gate (small granite pavement, newly laid) with a subsequent, arched driveway through the garden to the west side of the villa (small granite pavement in the eastern confluence area, otherwise gravel / gravel ceiling)
    • The staircase to the entrance portal of the villa with terrace (intermediate landing) and two staircases renewed (sandstone pillars and covers of the stair stringers and cladding of the terrace wall new, original decorative attachments of the lower pillars with spheres are missing today, probably historical granite or artificial stone steps, modern concrete paving) ,
    • In the middle part of the property, several partial areas prepared for parking cars (gravel cover / gravel lawn),
    • Apart from the driveway, there are no other ways to develop the garden (or are maintained in their inventory), possibly an arcuate route east of the garden house as a terrain feature.
  • Ground relief:
    • The property is located on a hillside (rise mainly to the west), the earlier ground relief has been partially reshaped for the establishment of parking spaces,
    • The north-west and north-east corner of the property are particularly noticeable as they are higher than the height of the adjoining parts, to the south-west of the villa there are brackets made of concrete or brickwork (allegedly only introduced after 1945 in connection with the establishment of a coal storage area),
    • In front of the east side of the garden house, the location of the former pond (?) Is faint in the area.
  • Vegetation:
    • Three stately blood beeches (Fagus sylvatica f. Purpurea) around the garden house in the northern part, further old trees mainly linden (Tilia cordata?) And English oak (Quercus robur), as well as hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) and Norway maple (Acer platanoides ),
    • Weeping ash (Fraxinus excelsior 'Pendula') on the viewing point in the northeast corner of the property,
    • A row of linden trees (Tilia cordata), field maple (Acer campestre), Norway maple (Acer platanoides) and pipe bush (Philadelphus spec.) Are planted on the eastern property line,
    • Isolated conifers (two blue spruces / Picea pungens iS near the villa, another specimen and some red spruces / Picea abies, probably of more recent origin), an older rhododendron north of the villa,
    • In the western area some new plantings (supposedly as replacement plantings for felled old trees),
    • To the west of the garden house the slightly hilly remnant of a planting bed (?, Today stock of bilberry / Vaccinium myrtillus).
  • Furnishing:
    • Representative garden house in the northern area (renovated), upper floor as a wooden veranda glazed on three sides with access from the west side (perhaps transferred here from an originally different structural context?), Plastered basement floor with two entrances on the narrow sides (utility room or fountain room ), on the east side a cone with a gargoyle (grottled lion's head) and a semicircular wall basin [on the outside with quartz (?) stones and on a sculptured console; Remains of blue paint)], sandstone corner cuboid on both sides of the wall fountain,
    • Lookout point in the north-eastern corner of the property (angular wall on the outside, the base of a balustrade presumably preserved as the upper end, also brick ornaments as on the fence pillars on the side of the gate system), from here a distant view of Augustusburg Castle,
    • Pavilion on the south-eastern corner of the property (two-storey on a square floor plan, very simplified on the outside compared to the originally picturesque design),
    • Bowling alley west of the villa with a pavilion-like head building on the north side.
  • Views:
    • Due to the topographical situation, a further view of the landscape to the east, in a north-easterly direction Augustusburg Castle as a striking eye-catcher (special reference to the north-east vantage point?),
    • In the placement of the garden house, in addition to the view from there to the east, the views to the south (to the villa) and to the north (in the landscape) were deliberately included (planting of the eastern property line will probably only be added later),
    • Adjacent forest area to the west.
  • Interpretation / evaluation:

The property is (according to its original purpose) one of the most remarkable factory owner's residences from the period around the turn of the 19th to the 20th century in the Erzgebirge district. It is of local and architectural value, and from its use by the Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse Chemnitz as a convalescent home since 1909, a socio-historical testimonial value can also be derived. Despite subsequent reductions or redesigns, the existing structure of the garden still documents ambitious efforts made during the time it was set up and is of historical importance. The garden house with wall fountain and grotto is a particularly individual creation.
