List of heads of state of Liberia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of the presidents of Liberia includes all 25 presidents of Liberia who were sworn in on the country's declaration of independence on July 26, 1847. So there are no presidents here who came to power after a coup . Between 1980 and 2006, the presidency was interrupted three times, once because of an attempted coup and twice because of the two civil wars . During this time the state was also run by strangers. Since Joseph Jenkins Roberts and James Spriggs Payne ruled for two non-consecutive terms, both are listed twice, which is why the list contains 25 presidents, but only 23 different ones. The banknotes of the Liberian dollar show some presidents.

On December 26, 2017 , former professional soccer player George Weah was elected to succeed Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in the runoff election.
