This incomplete list of mines in the Wetterau includes mines, subdivided according to the respective district as well as the cities and municipalities there. Since the Wetterau lies entirely in Hesse, there is no breakdown by federal state.
The Wetterau is not necessarily known for mining activities. However, lignite was mined here to a greater extent (near Wölfersheim ). Iron and sometimes other ores were extracted to a small extent. The mining in the Wetterau was only of regional importance.
Iron, manganese; Rosbacher Manganese Mine had about 100 shafts; Conveyor shaft with a depth of 153 m; Production from 1862 to 1891 (N-bearing of the mine): 220,901 t of iron ore and 1,286 t of manganese ore; 1899 discovery of the south camp; Production of S storage: 500,000 t ore
Between Friedberg and Hungen there are several flooded opencast mining lakes of former brown coal mines. Eg Friedrich south of Hungen and the Wölfersheimer See near Wölfersheim . The total production totaled ~ 70 million tons of brown coal.
