Thuringia

There are countless disused mines in the Thuringian Forest. Around the city of Suhl there are more than 2000 daily openings of former mining facilities from the 13th to the 20th century; Mainly iron, silver, copper and uranium ores were mined. A similar situation can be found around Ilmenau , where primarily copper, silver, hard coal, uranium, manganese, spar and iron ore were extracted, as well as around Schmalkalden , Trusetal and Steinbach-Hallenberg . Significant gold deposits were mined along the Schwarza .
