Stolzenbach is a district of Borken in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district . It is located in a side valley of the Olmes on the state road 3152 from Dillich to Pfaffenhausen , which is called "Dillicher Straße" in town.

location

The Stolzenbach district has a size of 356  ha , of which 163 ha are used as forest. On the southern boundary of Dillich, the people mountain is 278 m high . The Weinkopf begins in the northern part of the district at a height of 298 m.

To the north-east of Stolzenbach is Pfaffenhausen, to the south of Dillich and to the north the core town of Borken.

Stolzinbach was first mentioned in a document in 1250. Stolzenbach has been referred to as a village since 1511 . Historically, the place name appears in different variants, as can be seen in the "State Historical Information System": Stolzinbach (around 1250), Stoltenbach (1266), Stoltzenbach (1343), Stolczinbach (1361), Stoltzinbach (1370), Stoltzenbach (around 1570).

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent community was incorporated into the city of Borken (Kassel district) with seven other locations.

Lignite mining and mine disaster

The pit Stolzenbach lignite area Borken promoted since 1956 in underground mining from a depth of about 60 to 170 m lignite . In one of the biggest disasters in German coal mining, the Stolzenbach mine disaster on June 1, 1988, 51 miners were killed by a coal dust explosion in the Stolzenbach lignite mine . Six miners survived in an air bubble at a depth of 150 meters and were rescued on June 4th. The "Stolzenbach Aid Working Group" was founded to provide acute care for victims and auxiliary workers.

After the accident, lignite mining in the Borken region was stopped. Since then, the “ Stolzenbach mine memorial ” has been located on the outskirts of Stolzenbach .

The mine, which is now closed, is an important paleontological site for pond turtles ( Palaeoemys hessiaca and Borkenia oschkinisi ).
