Logatec ( German : Loitsch , Italian : Longatico , from Latin : Longaticum ) is a town in southwestern Slovenia with 8,200 inhabitants (2006). the entire municipality of Logatec has 11,343 residents.
history
The geographical location of the place between the inland and the coast played a formative role for the place for centuries. The earliest mention of the settlement comes from Roman times, when the street mansio Longatico was located here on the Via Gemina between Aquileia and Emona ( Ljubljana ) , which is recorded on the Tabula Peutingeriana between the stations Ad Pirum in the Birnbaumer forest and Nauportus ( Vrhnika ) .
In later times Logatec was on the road between Ljubljana and Trieste , to which a station on the Spielfeld-Straß-Trieste railway was added in the mid-19th century . The so-called furmani (from German : Fuhrmann ) were very well known here.
Today's city emerged from the merger of different villages: Dolenja vas (German: Niederdorf), Mandrge (German: "Mandrege"), Čevica (German: "Tschewitz"), Martinj hrib (German: "Martinfels"), Brod (German: "Fürten"), Blekova vas (German: "Fleckdorf"), Cerkovska vas (German: "Kirchdorf"), Gorenja vas (German: "Oberdorf").
