The Lotus 107C was a Formula 1 racing car from the British racing team Lotus , which was used in the 1994 Formula 1 season .
Technical specifications
Lack of financial means was one of the main reasons why the Lotus 109 , which was still under development , could not be used in racing at the beginning of the 1994 Formula 1 season. Therefore, the team leadership decided to contest the first world championship races with an almost unchanged Lotus 107B . The only change was the new engine from a different supplier. The suspension with double wishbones remained essentially the same.
The engine now provided by Mugen-Honda promised more power than that of Ford-Cosworth from the previous year, but the technical development of the promised new expansion stage was delayed, so that Lotus only had access to an outdated engine generation until the Italian Grand Prix . But even with the new expansion stage, there were no world championship points.
sponsor
The team's main sponsors were the US brewery Miller , the fashion company Tomy Hilfiger and the Japanese electronics and mechanical engineering group Hitachi . Other advertising media included the construction machinery manufacturer Komatsu , the adhesive manufacturer Loctite and the pharmaceutical company Shionogi .
Season course
Due to a lack of engine power, neither Pedro Lamy nor Johnny Herbert could achieve any points with a Lotus 107C. Lamy then had such a serious accident during test drives at Silverstone because of a broken rear wing that he suffered complicated fractures on both legs and one wrist. Alessandro Zanardi , who will replace him from the Spanish Grand Prix , was also unable to achieve any countable results with the Lotus 107C.
