Louis Remy de la Fosse
Louis Remy de la Fosse (* around 1659 in France ; † 17th September 1726 in Darmstadt ) was a French architect of the baroque , who worked in Germany.
Origin and family
Little is known about his origins and training. He may be the son of the painter Charles de Lafosse . He probably emigrated from France to Germany after the Edict of Nantes was repealed . He is very likely the father of the cartographer and engraver Georges Louis Le Rouge . Perhaps his real name is therefore Nicolaus Le Rouge. An emigration from France because of the repeal of the Edict of Nantes is unlikely since he was buried as a Catholic in 1726.
Life
Until 1705 he worked as a draftsman in Johann Friedrich Eosander's studio in Berlin . His unexecuted design for Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin has survived from 1705 . At the beginning of 1706 he was appointed the first architect at Georg Ludwig's court in Hanover. From 1706 to 1709 he worked in Hanover, in 1710 and 1711 in Kassel and again in Hanover until 1714. From 1714 he was a chief engineer in Darmstadt in the service of Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen-Darmstadt and headed the entire civil and military construction sector until his death. He was also responsible for regulating the Rhine and the associated hydraulic structures. Furthermore, the plan for a hedge theater in the Great Garden of Herrenhausen goes back to him; the illustration can be found in the engravings by Georges Louis Le Rouge.
