Loutrochori ( Greek Λουτροχώρι ( n. Sg. ), Bath-village ', Greco-Macedonian and Pontic Loutrochor Λουτροχώρ, older even Loutrochorion Λουτροχώριov or Bania Μπάνια) is a place and health resort and its three healing springs one of the most famous spas in Greece . The village with around 500 inhabitants in winter and around 800 in summer is located in the municipality of Skydra in the Central Macedonia region .

Loutrochori is a village in the Skydra municipality . It is located about 6 km southwest of the city of Skydra , 20 km southwest of Edessa , 25 km north of Veria , 77 km northwest of Thessaloniki (where the Macedonia international airport is also located), 540 km northwest of the capital of Greece and Athens at a height of approx. 90 m .
The municipality part has an area of 750.6625 hectares or 7.506 square kilometers (only the village itself 27.6237 hectares) and includes the southwestern edge of the municipality Skydra or the southern edge of the regional district Pella and borders on the south on Imathia .
The village of Loutrochori is located in the northwestern foothills of the Central Macedonian Plain. The highest point in the local area is the Kanber (also Profitis Ilias ) with a height of 358 m. It is located northwest of the village center.

Loutrochori is in the area of the Mediterranean climate . Summers are warm to hot and relatively long; the winters are cold and relatively short.

history
Historically, Loutrochori belonged to Pella , the capital of the Greco-Macedonian Empire and the birthplace of Alexander the Great . The village of Loutrochori was at the center of ancient Macedonian culture. Already in prehistoric times the country was inhabited by humans and experienced a heyday during the rule of the Macedonians . In Loutrochori one encounters the traces of a culture whose presence extends from antiquity through Byzantium to the Christian era. Here was in the 4th century BC Chr. , The first resort in the Kingdom of Macedonia .
Just like many other settlements in today's Greek region of Macedonia , the current place Loutrochori is a new establishment from the years 1912/13 and 1923 by refugees of the Asia Minor catastrophe and after the expulsion of the Pontic Greeks . From 1941 to 1944 Loutrochori was occupied by German troops, then from mid-1947 to March 1950 the scene of the Greek civil war and temporarily uninhabited.
A decisive development boost for the village came from the connection to the asphalt road network and the completion of three outdoor swimming pools in the 1970s. Since then, Loutrochori has had tourist importance as a seaside resort, which is visited by more than 5000 tourists annually.
Loutrochori was merged in 1997 under the Greek local government reform law with the neighborhoods Plevroma and Petrea (or Arseni , Aspro , Dafni and Kalivia ) to form the municipality '(Dimos) Skydra.

The name of the place is derived from a Macedonian word ( Μπάνια , Bania or tr . : Mpania) and means " health resort " or "bathing resort".

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
National road 2 ( European route 86 ) runs ten kilometers north of Loutrochori ; the next motorway junction, Veria (Kypseli) on the Egnatia ( A2 / E90 ), is just under 30 kilometers south. Both roads run from Thessaloniki to Kozani . Nine kilometers north of Loutrochori is the next larger train station, Skydra on the West and Central Macedonian Railway (further stops: 3 km to Petria and 8 km to Episkopi ), which is the stop on the InterCity line Thessaloniki-Kozani. Between Loutrochori and the prefecture capitals of Pella ( Edessa ) and Imathia ( Veria ) there are several bus connections every day. In the summer months a bus runs between Loutrochori and the municipality capital Skydra every 90 minutes (from 07:00 to 19:00), directly at the bus station.
Educational institutions
Loutrochori has its own primary school (Greek: Δημοτικό Σχολείο, "Dimotiko Scholio"). There is also a kindergarten (Greek: Νηπιαγωγείο, "Nipiagogio").
Leisure and sports facilities
The athletic culture and football club "Aristotelis Loutrochori", (Greek: Αθλητικός Εκπολιτιστικός Σύλλογος / Α.Ε.Σ. "Αριστοτέλης Λουτ" was founded in 1976. From 1987 to 1990, from 1992 to 1999 and from 2001 to 2007 he belonged to the first amateur league of the Pella prefecture, in which he rose again in 2009. In 1990 he became champion of the 1st amateur league of the prefecture of Pella and was promoted to the fourth highest Greek league in Delta Ethniki .
Culture and sights

- The main church in Loutrochori is the Basilica of Agii Pandes (Άγιοι Πάντες, All Saints Church ) on the central square . It was built in 1940 and has been the town's main church since 1950.
- The basilica of Agios Georgios (Άγιος Γεώργιος, Saint George ) with a supposedly miraculous icon is located about 0.5 km to the east and dates from the 13th / 14th centuries. Century and Byzantine times. It was the main church of the village until 1950 and is now a listed building.
