Ludwig Edenhofer (around 1850)

Carl Ludwig Edenhofer (born September 3, 1828 in Regen ; † August 24, 1895 ibid) was a German organ builder and violinist .

Life

Ludwig Edenhofer was born on September 3, 1828 as the son of the grocer Josef Edenhofer in Regen, house number 139, and was baptized Carl Ludwig on the same day. He completed an organ builder apprenticeship with Franz Zimmermann in Munich and Franz Ullmann in Vienna. In 1844 he took his master's degree and opened his own shop in Regen in 1852, in house 253 on Zwieseler Straße. The building was destroyed in a fire in 1938. In 1885, Edenhofer gave Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck , "the tone setter in a European concert", a pitch pipe for his birthday. In 1893 the company was divided and the main business relocated to a closed match factory near Deggendorf. Ludwig Edenhofer junior continued this business . Ludwig Edenhofer (senior) died in Regen on August 24, 1895. The company there was then continued by his second son, Josef Edenhofer, and shut down after his death at the age of 28 in 1897.

meaning

Thanks to its solid construction and high value for money, Ludwig Edenhofer was able to assert itself against the competition from other well-known organ building companies such as Steinmeyer from Oettingen or Maerz from Munich . In addition, he was more agile than his competitors in adapting to local conditions and in different liturgical tasks. At first he built organs exclusively with a sliding chest , from 1880 with the then modern mechanical cone chest . He built around 210 organs, mostly smaller instruments, and delivered some to Russia . Today there are still numerous, well-functioning instruments and some rebuilding of organs from the 18th century.
