Mühlbach is a district of the city of Dietfurt an der Altmühl in the Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate , Upper Palatinate administrative region .

location

The place is located in the southern Franconian Alb in the Altmühltal on the state road 2230 southeast of the municipality seat Dietfurt an der Altmühl.

history

During the Roman era in southern Bavaria (15 BC to the 5th century AD), Mühlbach was outside the Roman province of Raetia in the run-up to the Limes border. Hardly any archaeological finds are known from this period. However, a Roman coin was found during excavations. The area also belongs to the early Germanic settlement area .

In the Middle Ages there was a castle belonging to the Counts of Grögling-Hirschberg. In it, on September 8, 1304, the last Count Gebhard VII signed his famous will (... Mühlbach iuxta oppidum nostrum Dietfurt ..., German : ... Mühlbach near our city Dietfurt ... ), which included the territorial Set boundaries in this area for many centuries. Mühlbach came with Dietfurt to the Duchy of Bavaria .

The Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal , built from 1835 to 1846, passed Mühlbach. At Mühlbach there was a loading point (annex) for cargo handling . In 1950, the Ludwig Canal was closed again and, in the 1990s, most of it was reshaped when the Main-Danube Canal was built . A small section and the lock 12 have been preserved.

On January 1, 1972, Mühlbach was incorporated into the city of Dietfurt an der Altmühl.

Mühlbach is an ancient parish that belonged to the Altmühlmünster monastery in the Middle Ages . The parish church was built in its current form in 1722. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. In the Steinstadel and on the ground floor of the Sägemühlstadel, the exhibition "Stein.Wasser.Höhle" can be visited all year round, which provides information about the history and renovation of the Obermühle, the type of Jura houses and the exploration of the Mühlbachquellhöhle .
