Ludwig Hofmaier - called Handstand-Lucki - (born December 8, 1941 in Saal an der Donau ) is a German antique dealer and former gymnast and actor. His numerous television appearances made him known in German-speaking countries.

Life

The 1.55 meter tall Hofmaier is the son of a tailor and grew up in a family of ten. He attended secondary school. In the Bundeswehr he reached the rank of non-commissioned officer .

In 1961 Hofmaier was Bavarian master of artistic gymnastics , and he also won the Upper Palatinate championship six times. According to media reports, Hofmaier was the German gymnastics champion . He is considered the first German to master the Yamashita jump .

After walking on his hands - first from Saal an der Donau to Regensburg (20 km), then from Regensburg to Munich (132 km) - Hofmaier ran the 1070 km long route from Regensburg to on his hands within three months in 1967 Rome . Since then, he has been dubbed the “world champion in handrailing ” in media reports . He played the main role in the short film Play Harlekin (1966) by Wendl Sorgend.

Hofmaier meanwhile ran three bars in Regensburg, the "Kongo-Bar" on Neupfarrplatz, the "Aquarium" in Pfarrergasse and the "Arco-Bräu-Stuben" in Adolf-Schmetzer-Straße. From the beginning of the 1970s he ran the discotheque "Apollo" in Steinberg am See , where Marianne Rosenberg and the band Middle of the Road performed, among others . Later he converted the "Apollo" into a topless bar with no entry for minors.

He has lived with his wife in Offenburg since the early 1970s , from where he established himself as an antique dealer. Remarks

  1. Hofmaier's name is not included in the official lists of the German championship in the active class . It has not been clarified whether he bears the title for services in other age groups, for example.
  2. It is also unclear whether there was a world handrail championship. The journey from Vienna to Paris (with 1400 km within 55 days), carried out in 1900 by the Austrian Johann Haslinger (incorrectly: Johann Hurlinger) strapped to a little cart, is widely presented as the best handrail performance that is still valid today.
