Ludwig Spitaler
Ludwig Maximilian Maria Spitaler (* 1. November 1913 in Munich , † unknown) was a German production and production manager since 1957 in permanent services for Wolf C. Hartwig Rapid film.
Life
The banker's son began his professional career as a bank clerk, followed by commercial training. Subsequently, Spitaler was employed as an auditor at a trust company before he joined the Prague branch of Bavaria Film on June 1, 1942, initially on a trial basis . The production company, based in Spitaler's hometown, was so impressed by the commitment and skill of the young film salesman that he was entrusted with the important position of film director on January 1, 1943. In this position he was de facto responsible for the entire production and production management of all Prague films by Bavaria, without being named.
The end of the war only briefly interrupted Spitaler's film career. After an unsuccessful attempt as a stage manager ( Young Theater in Munich) and a brief employment with Luis Trenker , Ludwig Spitaler advanced to the position of managing director of the Munich production company Lucerna-Film and made a name for himself as a skilled organizer and production manager.
With the continuous production of films by Rapid-Film of the young Düsseldorf entrepreneur Hartwig at the end of the 1950s, the now continuously working as a production manager secured a regular income. He was mainly responsible for the technically smooth processes of the Rapid productions, while Hartwig u. a. focused on the financing and exploitation of the films. The Rapid films of the 1960s, made with international partners, were mostly turbulent and exciting adventures, shot in exotic locations (several times in Southeast Asia). Since 1970 Hartwig and his organizer Spitaler have been making cheap and highly profitable soft sex films almost without exception. The long-lasting film series Schoolgirl Report in particular promised a maximum of profit with a minimum of investment. In the late phase of his career at Rapid-Film, in the late 1970s, Ludwig Spitaler produced two international and top-class Landser films about the German Wehrmacht soldier Steiner for Hartwig. Although these were expensive to produce (and at least the first part turned out to be extremely cash-rich), they sometimes left an ambivalent impression due to the subliminally formulated message of war as the last men's adventure.
