Mátyás Bíró (born May 17, 1994 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who has been playing in the Romanian Ice Hockey League and the MOL League at the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov since 2015 .

Career

Club

Mátyás Bíró, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at SC Miercurea Ciuc , the traditional Szekler club for which he played in the Hungarian U18 league. In 2010 he moved to Slovakia to HK Nitra , where he played in the club's various youth teams. In 2014 he returned to Romania, where he played a season for HSC Csíkszereda , as SC Miercurea Ciuc is now called, in the Romanian ice hockey league and the MOL league . Since 2015 he has been on the ice at ASC Corona 2010 Brașov, also in the Romanian league and the MOL league. In 2017 he became Romanian champion with the club .

International

Bíró plays internationally in contrast to other Szeklers who compete for Hungary , for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior sector at world championships: he participated in the U18 world championships in 2010 , 2011 and 2012 when he was the top scorer among the defenders, as well as in the U20 world championships in 2012 when he was voted the best player on his team and together with his compatriot Roberto Gliga third best scorer behind the two Estonians Robert Rooba and Artjom Gornostajev and together with Gliga and Zsombor Molnár second best preparer after Gornostajev, participated in Division II in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Bíró made his debut in the men's national team at the 2014 World Cup when the Romanians had to accept relegation to Division II. He then played in Division II in 2015 and 2017 , when he and the Serb Marko Sretović were the third-best goal setter behind the Belgian Mitch Morgan and the Serb Dominik Crnogorac , where he was promoted to Division I. There he then played in the World Championship 2018 .
