Career

Club

Zsombor Molnár, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at HSC Csíkszereda , the traditional ice hockey club of the Szeklers, which at that time was still called SC Miercurea Ciuc and for which he initially played in the Hungarian and Romanian youth leagues. As a 17-year-old he made his debut for his club in 2010 in the MOL league , which he won with his team in his debut season. He then moved to Sweden, where he played for a year for Mora IK in the J20 SuperElit , the highest junior division in the Scandinavian country. He then returned to his hometown and now played for HSC Czíkszereda in both the MOL league and the Romanian league . In 2013 he and his team won the Romanian national championship and in 2014 the cup competition . At the beginning of 2015 he switched to CS Progym Gheorgheni in the current season , where he ended the season in the Romanian league. He then returned to HSC Csíkszereda. Since 2017 he has been playing for the ASC Corona 2010 Brașov .

International

In contrast to other Szeklers who play for Hungary , Molnár plays internationally for his native Romania . He was already active in the junior division at world championships: he participated in the U18 world championships in 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2011 as well as in the U20 world championships in 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , when he, together with his compatriots Roberto Gliga and Mátyás Bíró, was the second best goal setter after the Estonian Artyom Gornostajev was, and in 2013 , when he was voted the best player on his team, both participated in Division II.

Molnár made his debut in the men's national team at the 2013 World Cup in Division I. After the team was relegated without him in 2014, he played in Division II in 2015 , where he was immediately promoted again. At the World Championships in 2016 and 2018 he played again in Division I.
