history

Origin of name

Möllendorf was probably named after an old water mill on the edge of the forest. The former name of the village of Muldorf can also indicate its location in a hollow (in the valley). A third possibility of the origin of the name is derived from the "Mylern" or coal piles . A lot of charcoal was produced in this area . The place was first mentioned in a document in 961.

Until the 19th century

On July 2, 1046, Emperor Heinrich III transferred. Meissen Abbey several goods in Schwabengau , including "in locis [...] Mecelesdorf ".

  • In 1420 Möllendorf belongs to the front town of the Counts of Mansfeld . In 1519 the place was destroyed by a dam break and flooding as a result of a storm.
  • 1527 Peter Reinicke starts building a "guide unit" .
  • 1529 plague epidemic - more than half of the population died.
  • 1574 Sale of Möllendorf to Heinrich von Krosigk (noble family)
  • 1596 Hans Ernst von der Asseburg (noble family) acquires Möllendorf
  • 1596 Construction of the Neu-Asseburg Castle (currently unused). Several changes of ownership took place over the centuries.
  • 1618–48 In the Thirty Years War over 50% of the houses were destroyed
  • 1827 Construction of the new village church

20th century

The first street lamp was erected in 1909. The manor Möllendorf and Neu-Asseburg went into the possession of the Oberamtmann Carl Wentzel in 1919 . The aqueduct was completed in 1928. Today's Kreisstraße 2335 was paved in the direction of Mansfeld in 1936.

In 1944 a German military aircraft with a two-man crew crashed in the quarry. The manor was expropriated in 1945.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Blumerode was incorporated.

In 1978 the sewer system and new street lighting were built.

A dam of the Hagenteich broke during the floods in 1994. The protection of the forest office pond by the volunteer fire brigade prevented another flood disaster in Möllendorf.

21st century

On January 1st, 2005 Möllendorf becomes part of the unified community "Stadt Mansfeld".
