Myroh Lester Brooks or Marion Lester Brooks (* 1905 in Woodward , Oklahoma , † after 1959) was an American teacher and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Nothing is known about Myroh Lester Brooks' youth. In 1929 he moved to Arizona. Brooks earned a degree in education at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos ( Texas ). In the following years he attended the University of Texas , the University of Arizona and the Arizona State University , where he made his Master of Arts in education in 1944 . Brooks has taught in San Antonio, Texas, and in Pinal Counties , Maricopa Counties, and Pima Counties, Arizona. From 1942 until he took office as Superintendent of Public Instruction of Arizona in 1949, he worked as a teacher in Phoenix, Arizona.

On May 7, 1948, he announced his candidacy for the post of Superintendent of Public Instruction of Arizona. At this point, he was not perceived as a serious candidate. In the democratic primary elections in 1948, however, he defeated incumbent Linne D. Klemmedson with a majority of around 2,500 votes. Brooks won the subsequent elections in the fall of 1948. He was re-elected twice in a row. In his third reelection candidacy, he suffered a defeat in the Democratic primary against CL Harkins . Brooks left office in early 1955. In the 1956 election he was re-elected Superintendent of Public Instruction of Arizona. Brooks was defeated in the 1958 and 1960 Democratic primary elections. He left office in early 1959.
