The Queen Elizabeth is a cruise ship owned by Carnival Corporation & plc . The group operates the ship under its cruise brand Cunard Line , which ties in with the tradition of the former British shipping company of the same name. The ship was commissioned from the Italian shipyard Fincantieri in 2007 and delivered in 2010.

Construction and commissioning

The keel of the ship was laid on July 2, 2009 in the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone . and the delivery in October 2010. The ship was christened on October 11, 2010 by Queen Elizabeth II in Southampton and one day later, on October 12, 2010 the maiden voyage began , which took the ship to the Canary Islands and Madeira .

Ship description

The ship has a capacity of 2058 passengers on twelve decks and a measurement of 90,901 GT.

The typical Cunard color scheme, the black hull with the red chimney, is said to be reminiscent of the famous earlier liners Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth 2 . In contrast to these and the Queen Mary 2 , however, it has neither a consecutive number nor the prestigious name affix RMS for Royal Mail Ship . While the design of the Queen Mary 2, which was commissioned in 2004, still makes some reference to the predecessor ship Queen Elizabeth 2 , the rest of the external appearance of the Queen Elizabeth no longer has any similarities with the classic passenger ships. Among other things, the superstructures are much higher and steeper and the forecastle is very short. According to the shipping company, this is "a compromise between exclusivity and economy, in times of financial constraints the old construction would have been too expensive". The ship largely shares its base with the Queen Victoria , Eurodam , Nieuw Amsterdam as well as Costa Luminosa and Costa Deliziosa .

Shipyard time at Blohm + Voss

In May 2014, the ship was in dry dock at Blohm + Voss and was overhauled for around 30 million euros. In addition to various repairs and class work, exhaust scrubbers were installed. In addition, new cabins were installed and new carpets were laid.

to travel

Between May and August, visited Queen Elizabeth in principle Norway , ports in the Baltic Sea and the English Channel as well as the UK and Ireland . The port of departure is Southampton. In autumn, the ship sails the western and eastern Mediterranean from Piraeus , Civitavecchia and Venice , with the New Year's cruise in the Mediterranean starting from Southampton. Areas outside Europe are driven from January to April. It goes in the direction of the Caribbean , the Panama Canal and the South Pacific .
