Incident 2014

On December 11, 2014, a fire broke out in the engine room on a main engine in the middle of the North Atlantic. The fire was extinguished by the crew. No people were injured in the incident.

Coronavirus 2020

In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020, the Costa Luminosa was affected along with other cruise ships . The operators had let the ship leave Fort Lauderdale on March 5, 2020 , from where it should run via Antigua , Puerto Rico , Malaga , Spain , the Canary Islands and Marseille to Venice . As early as March 8th in Puerto Rico, a passenger with signs of COVID-19 disease had to be brought from board to a hospital, where she died days later on March 21st. A passenger who had traveled on the previous route of the ship also died on March 21 in the Cayman Islands as a result of a COVID-19 illness. In the Canary Islands, several passengers had to leave the ship with symptoms of the disease. On March 20, the ship docked in Marseille, 24 crew members and about 50 passengers had shown symptoms of infection with COVID-19 by then. From Marseille the passengers were brought to the airport in groups to fly from there to their home countries. Three passengers on the ship, who were sent on a scheduled flight to the United States, had tested positive for the virus, but their results did not arrive until their flight was already in the air. After landing in Atlanta , passengers had to wait 3 hours on the plane before the sick people were taken out of the plane. The others had to provide information about their state of health and were instructed to quarantine themselves for 14 days before they could leave the airport after measuring their temperature.

The 910 kg bronze statue "Donna sdraiata 2004" by Fernando Botero is set up in the central hall, which extends over all decks above deck 2 and in which three glass elevators are installed, and its creation is documented in a nine-part photo cycle in the stairwell.
