The Guglielmo Marconi was a passenger ship put into service in 1963 by the Italian shipping company Lloyd Triestino . In 1977 the ship was converted for cruises and put into service for Costa Crociere in 1984 , where she remained in service as Costa Riviera until 2001 .

history

The Guglielmo Marconi was built at Cantieri Riuniti dell`Adriatico in Monfalcone and launched on September 24, 1961. After delivery on September 30, 1963, the ship began its first crossing from Genoa to Australia , where it was in service for the next fourteen years. In 1977 the ship was decommissioned and sold to the Italian Line , which operated it until January 1980 under the newly established own brand Italia Crociere for cruises. Then, after three years of lay- in , it was sold to Costa Crociere and converted into a pure cruise ship.

As an American Adventure off Key West

From 1993 to 1994 the ship operated as an American Adventure . During this time the ship was used by Costa Crociere and Bruce Kidneyburg. It was geared towards cruising for young American families with children. Since this was not very successful, the ship was used again for cruises in Europe in September 1994. In 2002, however, it was sold to India for scrapping and renamed Liberty for the crossing .

Sister ship

The Guglielmo Marconi had a sister ship with the Galileo Galilei , which sank in 1999 as Sun Vista .
