The Costa Atlantica is a cruise ship operated by CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited .

details

The Costa Atlantica was the first cruise ship commissioned by Costa Crociere under the leadership of Carnival Corporation & plc . The ship was delivered in 2000 from the Kvaerner-Masa-Yards shipyard in Helsinki. The ship was designed by the Italian actress and diva Claudia Cardinale in the name Costa Atlantica baptized. It has a passenger capacity of 2,680 seats and a crew of 920 men. The drive system of the Costa Atlantica is diesel-electric and enables a speed of 24 knots.

commitment

Like theirs, the Costa Serena and the Costa neoRomantica and, since 2019, the Costa Venezia, the Costa Atlantica only serves Asian guests. From their base ports of Tianjin near Beijing and Shekou near Hong Kong , destinations in Japan are called on five-day voyages .

In January 2020, the ship left Costa Crociere's fleet and was transferred to CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited , a joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corporation and Carnival Corporation & plc .

incident

In 2010 the Costa Atlantica caused damage to the AIDAblu lying at the pier in Warnemünde under the command of Captain Francesco Schettino , who later became the captain of the Costa Concordia . The AIDAblu , which also belongs to the operating group Carnival Corporation & plc, was apparently set in motion by traveling too fast when entering the port. In the incident, however, the AIDAblu's provisions ramp was only slightly damaged . The shipping company Costa Crociere, which owned both cruise ships, immediately denied contact with the ship and complained about an inappropriate presentation, as such superficial damage would "happen" in everyday life. Schettino is said to have been reprimanded in writing by the shipping company for his lack of attention.
