Mami Shindō ( Japanese 進藤 真 美 , Shindō Mami ; born February 22, 1975 in Obanazawa , Yamagata Prefecture as Mami Homma ( 本 間 真 美 )) is a former Japanese biathlete . She took part in seven biathlon world championships and Olympic winter games.

Mami Shindo started out cross-country skiing , but switched to biathlon in 1993. To do this, she had to go to the "winter combat training unit" (Tōsenkyō) of the ground self-defense forces , as is customary in Japan . She lives in Shinjō and trained in Sapporo . At the beginning of the 1995/96 season she made her debut in the Biathlon World Cup in Östersund and was 83rd of an individual. In Antholz , she won a World Cup point for the first time in a sprint a little later as the 25th. The first high point of her career was the 1996 biathlon world championships in Ruhpolding , where the Japanese woman finished 66th in the individual 47th in the sprint and with Hiromi Suga , Sakiko Takefushi and Yukari Abe in ninth place in the relay race. The next major event was the 1997 Biathlon World Championships in Osrblie . Shindō finished 50th in the individual and with Suga, Ryōko Takahashi and Kyōko Yamauchi in the relay race and with Suga, Takefushi and Takahashi in the team race in 15th place. In domestic Japan, the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano became Shindo's first Olympic Games. In the individual she reached 29th place and with Suga, Mie Takeda and Takahashi place 14 in the relay race.

The 1998/99 season brought Shindo with a tenth place in a sprint race in Valcartier, the best placement in a World Cup race. In addition, she finished in 38th place in the overall ranking of the season, without being able to show any other outstanding results, proof of her sporting consistency over the season. The 1999 biathlon world championships were chaotic due to the weather. In Kontiolahti the sprint could still be carried out in which Shindo came in 43rd place, as well as the relay race in which Japan was tenth with Shindo, Takahashi, Tamami Tanaka and Suga. The individual had to be held at Holmenkollen in Oslo , where the Japanese was 38th. The 2000 Biathlon World Championships were held at the same location . Shindo started in singles and was there 26th, in the sprint, where she was 46th, and 38th in the pursuit. The season in the cast of the previous year was ninth. With the season, other good results followed in 2000, when in Lahti and Antholz, Japanese seasons with Shindo could be placed fourth twice. In Pokljuka she last competed at the World Championships in 2001 and reached 22nd place in the individual, 41 in the sprint, 43 in the pursuit and was ninth in the proven relay line-up of the previous two years. The last major event and the end of his career was the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . In the competitions in Soldier Hollow , Shindo was 64th of the individual, 45th in the sprint and 41st in the pursuit. The season, which appeared for the fourth time in a row at the season's highlight with the same line-up, reached rank 14.
