action

After married insurance clerk Steve and divorced fashion designer Vicki share a taxi, Steve takes them to lunch. In the hope of an affair, he takes her to a hotel room, where Vicky says that she has nothing against uncomplicated sex, but that the atmosphere in London is not suitable for it. Steve suggests a trip to Malaga, Spain .

At the airport, Steve can just prevent his wife Gloria and their children from flying on the same plane and lands on a seat next to the American film producer Walter Menkes. In Spain, too, the problems never end and the couple has to deal with broken gears and endless hotel stairs. In the hotel room, Steve and Vicki first get into an argument about who is on which side of the bed, which ends with Steve getting lumbago . The two have sex the next day, but immediately afterwards, tensions between them build up. Eventually they unintentionally end up in a dinner with Walter and his wife Patty - who Vicki met the day before - during which Vicki makes fun of the looks of Steve's daughter. Steve and Vicki therefore decide to leave immediately, but no longer get tickets for the return flight and have to return to their hotel, where they get into a real argument. After a joke by Vickis, however, the argument ends in laughter and a romantic relationship begins for the rest of the vacation. Although Walter, who also once had such a vacation relationship, advises Steve against it, Steve wants to keep the relationship with Vicki in London.

To do this, he rents an apartment in Soho and uses every opportunity to meet her. These meetings get more and more complicated and over time, Steve's work colleagues also learn of his affair. After Vicki sees Steve and Gloria in front of a theater, although she had an appointment with him, and later speaks to him about it, Steve tries to talk his way out. Vicki explains to Steve that she saw him with his wife and has a nervous breakdown. The next morning Steve sends a telegram to the shared apartment with which he informs Vicki that their relationship has ended. Later, however, he makes a different decision and rushes to the apartment, which is already empty. Steve sees Vicki waiting for the bus through the window, but she doesn't seem to notice him.
