Marcus Giamatti

Marcus Bartlett Giamatti ( dʒiəˈmɑːti ; born October 3, 1961 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American actor who appears mainly in television series. He was best known for his role as Peter Gray as a regular cast member on the CBS drama series Just In Case, Amy .

Life

Giamatti is the son of Toni Marilyn (nee Smith) and former Yale University President and Major League Baseball Commissioner Angelo "Bart" Bartlett Giamatti . His younger brother is Oscar- nominated actor Paul Giamatti . He attended Foote School, Hopkins School, and Bowdoin College in Brunswick , Maine , where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Brotherhood. He eventually graduated from Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut . As a graduate of the Yale School of Drama , he received the Carole Dye Award for Excellence in Acting .

Giamatti began his career in the soap opera Love, Lies, Passion , but is probably best known for his regular role on the CBS drama series Just In Case , Amy , where he played the title character Peter Gray over the course of six seasons of the series. He's also had guest roles on a number of popular series including the X-Files , Homicide , Monk , The Mentalist, and Dr. House . He has rarely had film roles such as in Mr. & Mrs. Bridge , Armadillo Bears - A Totally Chaotic Bunch , and the biographical television film The Silicon Valley Story .

Giamatti is an accomplished musician, playing bass guitar in various bands in Los Angeles , including alternative folk rock group Olivea and jam band Rebel Soul .

Giamatti threw the ceremonial first pitch of the 1989 World Series opening in honor of his recently deceased father in Oakland , California.

More recently, he appeared as a guest on season 3 of the FBI's Fringe series and the final season of The Closer . In 2007 he played Uncle Lou in the drama On the Doll . In 2012 he appeared in a relevant supporting role in the series Common Law . He has also had guest roles on series such as Revenge , Bones and Navy CIS: LA

Giamatti is married to the actress Kathryn Meisle.
