Margaret Church

The listed Evangelical-Lutheran St. Margaret 's Church is in Wahlhausen , a municipality in the Eichsfeld district of Thuringia . The parish Wahlhausen belongs to the parish area Wahlhausen in the parish of Mulhouse the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The hall church was built in 1718 as an estate church for the Hanstein family. Due to the need for repairs to the church , especially on the roof, tower and windows, the last service took place in autumn 1976. The two church bells from 1355 and 1422 were removed from the tower, which was in danger of collapsing , and hung in a free-standing belfry in the parish garden . A third bell was cast to complete the bells. Since 1986 a renovation has been carried out by the preservation of monuments of the GDR . The church was initially empty before it was consecrated again in 1992.

The simple nave has a rectangular choir , which is not set off, and a slate-covered rectangular roof tower in the west . A hood sits on the square top , which is continued in an eight-sided lantern , which is crowned by a tower ball . The massive building , covered with a hipped gable roof , is plastered and provided with corner stones . In the west the gable is made of half-timbered houses. The former separate entrances for the Counts of Hanstein are located on the north side.

The ceiling and parapets of the galleries were painted in 1775 by Johann Friedrich Ender. Scenic images and texts are shown alternately. The lower gallery deals with the New Testament , the upper one with the Old Testament . There is a pulpit altar in front of the east gallery . To the left of this is a life-size sculpture of St. Elisabeth . The font from the previous church is from the 16th century and there is an ornament on the cup . The baroque pulpit with wooden figures is located in the middle of the altar in the lower gallery, it was built in 1718. There is a picture of Martin Luther on the door of Hanstein's patron's box .
