Marie-Sophie Pollak (born January 8, 1988 in Bietigheim-Bissingen ) is a German opera and concert singer ( soprano ).

Life

Marie Sophie Pollak learned to play the piano and violin as a child. From 2007 to 2014 she studied singing with Gabriele Fuchs at the University of Music and Theater in Munich and graduated with a master's degree in concert singing. In addition to her studies, she attended master classes with Roger Vignoles , Helmut Deutsch and Wolfgang Katschner , the founder and musical director of Lautten Compagney, among others .

In 2011 she made her debut as Vespetta in Telemann's comedy Pimpinone at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music . Other roles were Despina in Mozart's Così fan tutte (Reaktorhalle Munich ), Blonde in Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio ( Bad Reichenhall Festival ), Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas ( Akademietheater Munich ), Bemira in Telemann's opera Miriways ( Brucknerfest Linz ), the title role in Domenico Scarlatti's La Dirindina (Innsbrucker Festwochen / Festwochen Turin ) and the role of Almirena in Handel's Rinaldo (Theater der Stadt Schweinfurt ). In 2014 she could also be heard in the opera production Der goldene Apfel at the Potsdam Music Festival in the Orangery Palace in Sanssouci .

As part of her concert activities, she sang the B minor Mass by Johann Sebastian Bach in Wilten Abbey and the St. Matthew Passion in cooperation with Bayerischer Rundfunk under the direction of Martin Steidler . She worked with well-known conductors such as B. Michi Gaigg , Wolfgang Katschner, Pierre Pitzl and Alessandro De Marchi together. In January 2015 she made her debut in Mozart's Il re pastore under the direction of Jean-Christophe Spinosi and his Ensemble Matheus at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris . In July 2015 she sang the role of Hanne in Joseph Haydn's oratorio Die Jahreszeiten under the baton of Kent Nagano as part of the Audi Summer Concerts . In October 2017 she made her debut in this role at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg . On the occasion of the Reformation anniversary year 2017, she recorded three cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach based on texts by Martin Luther together with Christoph Spering and his Chorus Musicus Köln . The recording was awarded the ECHO Klassik 2017 for the best choral work recording of the year.

Marie-Sophie Pollak has already received several prizes. In 2006 she won a federal prize at the Jugend musiziert competition in the duo art song category, and in 2010 she was a finalist at the Pietro Antonio Cesti international singing competition for baroque opera . In 2012 she reached the final of the German Music Competition in Bonn with her early music ensemble Ensemble 392 . In the same year and the following year she was awarded the Germany Scholarship. She is also supported by the organization Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now and is a scholarship holder of the Christl-und-Klaus-Haack-Foundation.

Marie-Sophie Pollak is married to the baritone Michael Kranebitter and lives near Munich in Rott am Lech .
