The Mariengrotte (also called Lourdesgrotte ) in Dittwar , a district of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district , was built in the 1890s.

history

From 1890 to 1891, a Marian grotto, which is located 60 steps behind the Kreuzkapelle on Kreuzhölzle, was built and enlarged soon afterwards. It consists of travertine lumps from the Dittwar district of Heidenkessel . The Grotto and the adjoining chapels ( Chapel of the Cross and Calvary Chapel ), a leading crossroads . A pilgrimage to the Kreuzhölzle has been documented as early as 1670 .

Monument protection

The Mariengrotte is a cultural monument of the city of Tauberbischofsheim and is under monument protection as another monument .
