life and career

Marsai Martin was born around 2004 in the Texan city of Plano, a suburb of Dallas , and grew up in the nearby Little Elm on Lewville Lake , between Denton and Frisco , and attended the Chaves Elementary School here . At the age of five, her parents took her parents to the Kim Dawson Agency in Dallas, where she was henceforth signed and soon after was booked for her first nationally broadcast commercial (for Choice Hotels International ). She then took acting lessons at Cathryn Sullivan 's Acting for Film Studio in Lewisville , where Demi Lovato , Selena Gomez , Debby Ryan , Thomas Mann and Hayley Orrantia , among others, have already been trained. Here she also came to her future agent Melissa Berger Brennan from the CESD Talent Agency , who was piloting to California. In November 2013, the family moved to Los Angeles to promote the acting career of their then 9-year-old daughter. In the following 160 days she was booked for twelve different commercials, as well as the pilot of the ABC series Black-ish . She has since been seen in one of the leading roles in the series and mimes the daughter of Andre "Dre" Johnson, Sr (played by Anthony Anderson ) and Dr. Rainbow "Bow" Johnson (played by Tracee Ellis Ross ). For her previous performances in the series, she was nominated for a Young Artist Award in the category "Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series" at the 2015 Young Artist Awards, but could not prevail in this category against Holly Taylor from The Americans . The magazine Entertainment Weekly chose her this year in the selection of the twelve best child actors under twelve years ("Top 12 Under 12") in second place.

That year she was also hired to take on a speaking role in an episode of the Disney junior series Goldie & Bear . Here, as in Black-ish , she plays the twin sister of the character portrayed by Miles Brown . In the German broadcasting this episode her character was Jill of Maria Honig lent his voice. After the series continued to be very successful in 2015, the black-ish young actress was nominated for several awards in 2016. The 2016 Young Artist Awards were followed by nominations in the categories “Outstanding Cast in a TV Series”, where she was listed along with Marcus Scribner , Yara Shahidi and Miles Brown, and “Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series”. In the latter category, she was able to prevail against the competition. The Black-ish series also played an important role at the Image Awards 2016 and was once again nominated in numerous categories. Marsai Martin received nominations in the category “Outstanding Performance by a Youth (Series, Special, Television Movie or Mini-series)” and in the category “Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy TV Series”. While she had to admit defeat to series colleague Marcus Scribner in the first-mentioned category, series colleague Miles Brown was also nominated for this award, she won the award for "Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy TV Series". She also did various work in the voice-over area for the animated film The Addams Family , the comedy The Ridiculous 6 , as well as various other projects.
