Marta Olehiwna Kostjuk ( Ukrainian Марта Олегівна Костюк ; born June 28, 2002 in Kiev ) is a Ukrainian tennis player .

Career

Kostjuk, who prefers to play on clay courts, began playing tennis at the age of five. On January 28, 2017, she won the female junior title at the Australian Open and that in her first Grand Slam participation. In the final, she defeated Rebeka Masarova 7: 5, 1: 6 and 6: 4. In September she also won the double title at the US Open in the junior division.

At the Australian Open 2018 Kostjuk received a wildcard for qualification ; a reward for winning last year's juniors. She moved into the main field of the women's singles with wins over Arina Rodionowa , Daniela Seguel and Barbora Krejčíková . There she reached the third round after further victories over Peng Shuai and Olivia Rogowska , where she beat her compatriot Elina Switolina , who was seeded in fourth, with 2: 6 and 2: 6 after five wins in her first Grand Slam tournament finally left.

In February 2018, she played in Canberra against Australia for the first time for the Ukrainian Fed Cup team . She has one win on her Fed Cup record.

Personal

Her mother Talyna Bejko was also a professional tennis player. Her cousin is a professional soccer player and model Myroslaw Slawow .
