After that, the defense moved for a year in the league for EHC Bad Aibling . In spring 2002, the right-wing shooter signed a contract with the Munich Barons from the DEL and moved with them when they became the Hamburg Freezers . In the 2008/09 season, Martin Walter played at HC Litvínov in the Czech extra league . With Litvínov he reached third place in the table after the main round, but then retired with the club in the play-off quarter-finals with 0: 4 defeats against eventual champions HC Energie Karlovy Vary . The right-shooter completed 52 main round games and scored four points. In the summer of 2009 he returned to Hamburg, where he signed a contract until 2011. In July 2010, his contract with the Freezers was terminated by mutual agreement after Stéphane Richer had announced in March that he was not planning with Walter.

In August 2010 Walter completed a trial training session at KLH Chomutov , where he injured his hand in the second preparation game. On October 29, 2010 Walter received a short-term contract until November 18 with the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg , who reacted to injuries to two defenders. On December 30, 2010, the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers signed Martin Walter. His contract expired in 2012 and in September 2012 Walter was signed again by Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg, initially limited to the end of November 2012, later until the end of the season. At the end of the season, Walter did not receive a new contract offer in Wolfsburg. In November 2013 he signed a contract with the Fishtown Pinguins from the DEL2 until the end of the season. After Walter won the DEL2 championship with the Penguins, he ended his active professional career after the season.
