Martin von Denk

Martin thought , since 1905 Knight of thinking , (* 12. July 1854 in Munich , † 6. September 1935 in Ammerland ) was a Bavarian officer , most recently General of Artillery in the First World War .

Life

family

He was the son of the merchant Josef Denk (1819–1869) and his wife Cäcilia, née Orelli (1824–1881). Denk married Sophie Münch in 1891. The marriage had two children.

Military career

After attending the secondary school , Denk joined the 2nd field artillery regiment of the Bavarian Army in Würzburg as a volunteer in 1874 . After successfully attending the Munich War School , he was promoted to secondary lieutenant on November 27, 1876 and served as regimental adjutant from 1880. From 1885 to 1888, Denk, who in the meantime had been promoted to Prime Lieutenant on December 4, 1886, graduated from the War Academy , which made him qualified for the senior adjutantage and teaching subject. From 1889 he worked as a management officer and teacher at the artillery and engineering school , was transferred to the 3rd field artillery regiment "Queen Mother" on October 1, 1890 and in 1893 as battery chief . In 1896 he was transferred to inspect the foot artillery . Since October 31, 1898 major , Denk was transferred to the War Ministry in 1900 and rose here after his promotion to lieutenant colonel on July 14, 1902 to head of the department for artillery and weapons. As a colonel , Denk returned to the service and was from April 9, 1905 to December 11, 1906 commander of the 3rd field artillery regiment "Prince Leopold".

By Prince Regent Luitpold , Denk was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown on May 6, 1905 . With the award the elevation to the personal nobility was connected and he was allowed to call himself "Ritter von Denk" after the entry in the nobility register .

On December 14, 1906, he was appointed commander of the 1st Field Artillery Brigade . In this position promoted to major general on March 8, 1907 , he was appointed inspector of the technical institutes the following year. Since April 23, 1911 Lieutenant General , thinking was with the star on the March 11, 1912 Military Merit Award II. Class, and on 19 March 1914 in approval of his leave request with the statutory board for disposition made.

During the First World War, he was re-used as Lieutenant General zD. From March 7, 1915 to June 14, 1917, Denk served as inspector of Stage Inspection 6 . In this capacity he was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross and on November 18, 1916 he received the character of General of the Artillery.
