Matthew "Matt" Griffin (born October 1, 1982 in Cork ) is an Irish racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Matt Griffin began his career in 2001 in the British Formula Renault Championship , where he finished his first full single-seat season behind Carl Breeze , Richard Antinucci , Danny Watts , Heikki Kovalainen and Tom Sisley in sixth place overall. After finishing 11th in 2002, he left the series and monoposto racing at the end of the season and switched to GT and touring car racing in 2003 .

The move brought him a championship success in his first year. In 2003 he won the overall classification of the GTC class of the British GT Championship and celebrated eight class wins in eleven races. In the mid-2000s, Griffin established itself in national and international GT racing. He drove races in the British Porsche Carrera Cup, the International GT Open , the FIA GT Championship and the European Le Mans Series .

Griffin became a team member at AF Corse in the early 2010s and was runner-up overall in the GTE-Am class of the European Le Mans Series in 2012 . In 2013 he won this overall ranking. In 2012 he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans , where he has competed five times so far. In 2015 he won the GT-Am class at the Dubai 24-hour race and the Blancpain Endurance Series .
