Matt Kalil (born on 6. July 1989 in Corona , California is) a US American football poker players on the position of offensive tackles . He played college football at the University of Southern California (USC). In the 2012 NFL Draft , he was selected in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings , for which he was active in the National Football League (NFL) until 2016 . Then Kalil was with the Carolina Panthers and the Houston Texans under contract.

Early years

Kalil attended Servite High School in Anaheim , California and played football for the Servite Friars High School until 2007. He has received countless awards and was named the third best tackle of the 2008 class by Rivals.com.

As a student at the University of Southern California , he was initially only second choice behind Tyron Smith , who later became the Dallas Cowboys tackle , and was only used occasionally or played in the special teams . As a sophomore, he finally prevailed against Smith and started in all 13 games for the USC Trojans . He also managed to block a field goal against Notre Dame . As a junior he was part of an offensive line that allowed only eight sacks in the entire season ; he was elected to several All-American teams and received the Morris Trophy as the twelfth Trojan offensive lineman . On December 16, 2011, he announced that he would be giving up another year of college football to compete in the 2012 NFL Draft .

NFL

After completing his sophomore year at college, he was rated the best offensive lineman for the 2012 draft. The Minnesota Vikings voted Kalil fourth, and he signed a four-year contract on July 26, 2012. In his first season, he was allowed to participate in the Pro Bowl , as he slipped for tackle Trent Williams of the Washington Redskins , who had recently been injured in a brawl.

In 2017, Kalil signed a five-year $ 55 million deal with the Carolina Panthers . After spending the entire 2018 season on the Injured Reserve List with a knee injury , he was released on March 14, 2019. Less than two weeks later, the Houston Texans signed him. On September 1, Kalil was sacked by the Texans before the start of the regular season after they had signed Laremy Tunsil .

Private

Kalil's father Frank was also a football player for the University of Arkansas and University of Arizona before he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1982 and was active in the NFL and United States Football League until 1984 . His older brother Ryan Kalil played like Matt at the University of Southern California and was elected to the Pro Bowl five times .
