Mattendorf , Matyjojce in Lower Sorbian , is a district of the municipality of Wiesengrund in the Spree-Neisse district in Brandenburg .

Mattendorf is located in Niederlausitz and belongs to the recognized official settlement area of the Sorbs / Wends . Surrounding villages are Gahry in the north, the districts of Jocksdorf in the east and Klein Kölzig in the south-east , which belong to the municipality of Neisse-Malxetal , Bohsdorf-Vorwerk in the municipality of Felixsee in the south and Trebendorf in the north-west.
Mattendorf is located on Kreisstraße 7108. Through the southern part of the Mattendorf district, state road 48 runs from Cottbus to Spremberg , and the L482 continues to Döbern , the road is about two kilometers from the town center.
history
Mattendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1500, but is probably much older. The place name is named after a person with the name Mata , the Sorbian form of Matthias . In 1907 a school building was erected in Mattendorf , which today houses the community center.
After the Congress of Vienna , Mattendorf, like all of Lower Lusatia, came to the Kingdom of Prussia . Before that, the village belonged to Saxony. On July 25, 1952, the community was assigned to the newly formed Forst district in the Cottbus district and, after the reunification, was in the Forst district in Brandenburg . After the district reform in the state of Brandenburg on December 6, 1993 , Mattendorf was assigned to the newly formed Spree-Neisse district . Since December 31, 2001, the community Mattendorf formed the new large community Wiesengrund through a voluntary merger with the previously independent communities Gahry , Gosda , Jethe and Trebendorf .

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 256 inhabitants for Mattendorf in the 1880s, all of whom were Sorbs . In 1956 Ernst Tschernik still counted a Sorbian-speaking population of 32.7%.
