Max-Alain "Max" Gradel (born November 30, 1987 in Abidjan , Ivory Coast ) is an Ivorian football player .

Player career

Leicester City (2007-2010)

Max Gradel, who came from the youth of Leicester City , initially only played very briefly at his first professional club. In the 2007/08 season he therefore moved on loan to the English third division AFC Bournemouth . The loan business, which was only briefly interrupted at the beginning of January 2008, proved to be successful for all parties. Gradel played 34 league games and scored 9 goals, but his team rose after a 10-point deduction in the fourth-rate Football League Two .

In the 2008/09 season Gradel reached (27 games / 1 goal) with Leicester City the championship in the English third division and thus promotion to the Football League Championship .

Leeds United (2009-2011)

After he was not considered in the first team in the 2009/10 season , he moved to the English third division club Leeds United in October 2009 on loan . Due to his attractive performance, manager Simon Grayson signed him on January 25, 2010 on a permanent contract basis. Gradel (32 games / 6 goals) also played a key role in ensuring that Leeds rose to the second league as runners-up behind Norwich City at the end of the season .

In the Football League Championship 2010/11 , the climber managed a good season with 7th place. Gradel (41 games / 18 goals) became one of the top goalscorers in the league and aroused the desires of higher-class clubs.

AS Saint-Étienne (2011-2015)

On August 31, 2011 Gradel moved to the French first division club AS Saint-Étienne and signed a four-year contract. In the first season he was a regular player and was able to score six goals in 29 Ligue 1 games . This remained so in his second season until he tore a cruciate ligament at the end of the season . So he fell out over the summer break and a total of 16 league games. After the injury he was back in his old place and was able to convince on the outside . In the 2014/15 season , he scored 17 goals in 31 league games and was fifth on the top scorer list together with Claudio Beauvue .

Bournemouth AFC (2015-2017)

After this good season he moved to AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League for five million pounds in the summer . In his first season there, he only played 14 times because he tore a cruciate ligament again. This time he missed 22 league games. In his second season at Bournemouth he was not seeded and only played eleven times despite being injured.

Toulouse FC (2017-2020)

After this season Gradel moved to the French Ligue 1 for Toulouse FC on loan . Here he played 31 times in his debut season and scored nine goals. At the end of the season, Toulouse was on the relegation place. You could keep the class with a 4-0 win against AC Ajaccio . Then Toulouse committed him firmly. In 2018/19 he scored eleven times and played in all 36 league games. In the 2019/20 season, Gradel was on the field 21 times and scored three goals until the Corona crisis .

Sivasspor (2020–)

In summer 2020 Max Gradel moved to the Süper Lig at Sivasspor .

National team career

Gradel made his debut for Ivory Coast on June 5, 2011, in a 6-2 win over Benin . After that he ran regularly for the Ivorians. So far he has been at every Africa Cup since 2012 . He was also in the squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil . So far he has won the Africa Cup once with the national team.
