According to his club, the 1.86 meter tall goalkeeper Goicoechea made his debut in the Clausura 2008 with Danubio in the Primera División . In that half series he played two first division games. After no further appearances were recorded for him in the following season or in the Apertura 2009, he played a total of 75 more league games in the Primera División from the Clausura 2010 up to and including the Clausura 2012 and also came three times in the Liguilla Pre Libertadores 2009 and twice in the 2012 Copa Sudamericana . He then joined the Italian first division club AS Roma on loan at the end of August 2012 and had to deal with competitor Maarten Stekelenburg in the battle for a place in goal. AS Roma secured a purchase option for this one-year loan deal. He made his debut for the Italians on October 31, 2012 in the 3-2 away defeat at FC Parma and played in a total of 15 Serie A games and one Coppa Italia game in the 2012/13 season . For the 2013/14 season he returned to Danubio. For the Montevideans, however, he did not come to any further premier league use until the end of the Apertura. The position of goalkeeper was Salvador Ichazo . His team won the 2013 Apertura as first in the table. On January 23, 2014, Goicoechea's player agent Alfredo Regueira then announced his move on loan to the Romanian club O Klelul Galați, trained by Ewald Lienen , in Romania. There he completed 15 league games. At the end of May 2014 he was presented as a newcomer to the Portuguese club FC Arouca , to which he was contractually bound for two seasons. According to press reports, the contract contains an exit clause of 1.5 million euros. In the 2014/15 season, which finished his club in 16th place in the table and thus barely prevented relegation, he was used 33 times in the Primeira Liga . On July 14, 2015, he was introduced to the French club FC Toulouse as a new addition to the 2015/16 season.

In the 2015/16 season, he was used from his league debut on August 9, 2015 against AS Saint-Etienne in a total of nine first division games, two games in the Coupe de France and one league cup encounter. In the following season 2016/17 he completed two more top division games and one game in the league cup.
