My wife, the film actress is a German silent film by Ernst Lubitsch from 1919. It is one of the director's lost films.
content
The film diva Ossi is supposed to play the main role of the simple maid in an alpine film. The film is produced by Lachmann's company "Zeus". Since she doesn't like the set in a studio, it is relocated to the mountains of Tyrol . There it comes to conflicts with the residents who refuse the filming.
Meanwhile, Ossi - dressed as a maid in her film costume - meets Baron Erich von Schwindt, who wants to escape the city and marry a simple woman from the country. He falls in love with Ossi, who in her costume corresponds to his ideal of a child of nature. Although she later reveals to him that she is a movie star, he still marries her. And Lachmann is also happy at the end, because the alpine film is a great success.
production
The shooting took place in 1918 in the Ufa Union studios in Tempelhof near Berlin, in Berchtesgaden and at Königssee . It had a length of three acts at 1127 and 1084 meters, about 62 and 60 minutes. The premiere was on January 24, 1919 in the UT Kurfürstendamm in Berlin . In February 1919 (No. 42781) the Berlin police declared the film to be suitable for minors (No. 42781). The post-censorship on May 31, 1921, however, imposed a youth ban on him (No. 2405).
criticism
The contemporary criticism found that Ossi Oswalda would be just like in real life: "The film diva Oswalda".
Herta-Elisabeth Renk wrote that Meine Frau, the film actress “probably […] was about exchanging social and gender roles”: “The less important the role pressure, the more harmless the films, apparently; We would only know exactly if a copy of the lost film was found. "
