Michael Flexig (born June 20, 1957 in Hanover ) is a German singer , presenter and speaker .

Life

1982-1996

Michael Flexig began his career with the band Combo Colossale . The band's debut single was Dolls Don't Cry . The song became one of the hits of the Neue Deutsche Welle in 1982 . This was followed by an album release and a. with the title Julia , which was released as the second single, as well as Inside they dance samba and the cover version (German original recording) of a Slade classic ( Eis und Feuer - My-Oh-My ), both of which were only released as singles and on the Album are not represented (non-album singles).

In 1983 Michael Flexig left Combo Colossale and played a demo recording together with the Hanoverian musicians Zeno Roth and Ule W. Ritgen. This led to a contract between the band Zeno and the EMI Group . Michael Flexig joined the rock band as the lead singer.

The debut album Zeno was created and released worldwide in early 1986.

In the USA the album reached the TOP 50 of the Billboard charts and stayed there for more than three months. The video clips A Little More Love and Love Will Live have been released. Zeno toured the US and Europe and played at major festivals, for example with Queen . In the late summer of 1988, Flexig left Zeno to devote himself to solo projects and more live presence.

Flexig had notable public appearances as lead singer in 1991 at “ The Jimi Hendrix Concert ” alongside Jack Bruce , Simon Phillips , John Wetton , Julia Neigel and others, and in 1993 at “ Symphonic Rock For Europe ” in Liège , Belgium 1993 together with Uli Jon Roth , Don Airey , John Parr and the Brussels Symphony Orchestra.

In 1993 the re-release of the debut album Zeno appeared in Japan . Seven years after it was first published, it reached another position in the charts, namely at position 11 in Japan. In September 1993, the band was partially reunited. Michael Flexig recorded the album Zenology together with his former bandmate Zeno Roth especially for the Japanese market. The second Zeno album in Japan was released in January 1995 on the Zero: Records label. On March 8, 1995, Zenology reached No. 4 on the Japanese rock music chart , just after Bon Jovi , Van Halen and Fire-House.

In 1995 Flexig took part in the production of Uli Jon Roth's album Prologue to the Symphonic Legends ( pseudonym : Sky of Avalon ) and contributed the lead vocals here - the most successful song on the album was Starlight . The album was released in Japan in January 1996 and reached number 3 on the international charts.

In the same year the “Echo Park” album Pretty Lies was released , a joint solo project with Eloy bassist Klaus-Peter Matziol , for which Michael Flexig had taken on the lead vocals. Pretty Lies was the follow-up to the band's first album entitled Echo-Park , which Flexig had already sung in 1988, together with Eloy co-musicians Klaus-Peter Matziol, Detlev Schmidtchen and the former Eloy and Scorpions drummer Jürgen Rosenthal ( Fly to the Rainbow ) was published in the same year ( see: Evidence serial no. 10, paragraph 08 ).

1996-2001

Flexig has been working on recordings for Uli Jon Roth's album Requiem for an Angel since mid-1996 . Flexig also wrote the lyrics for the TV cartoon series for children, Willi Wuhlmouse takes a trip around the world , and recorded the chants for it. The series started in 1996 in the USA. In 1997 recordings for the third Zeno album followed. The release of this album Listen to the Light took place on January 28, 1998 in Japan. It reached number 26 on the Whole album charts , number 6 on the foreign music charts and number 2 on the rock music charts - just behind Pearl Jam .

In April 1998 Listen to the Light was released in Europe on the MTM label . For the German ARD -Krimireihe scene Flexig took to the sequence Bienzle and champion the play The Champion ( Hero for a Day on) as the theme song and soundtrack. The first broadcast on ARD took place in August 1998. In 1999 he was involved in the preparation of the fourth Zeno album.

In 2001 Michael Flexig took part in several concerts on the Uli-Jon-Roth-Europe-Tour in Germany, in Berlin , Bochum , Hanover and Detmold .

2002–2012

On September 12, 2002, Michael Flexig's band from the early 1980s , the Combo Colossale , celebrated its 20th anniversary with two big shows in Hanover-Herrenhausen with the original line-up. He founded the band Six in the Dancehouse and became their band leader , singer and front man.

The albums Zeno , Zenology and Listen to the Light were re-released by Toshiba / EMI in Japan and by MTM across Europe in 2003, partly after remixing and re-mastering, with additional bonus tracks and a making of . Flexig participated in the preparation of the fourth Zeno album Runway to the Gods , which, however, ultimately appeared without him.

In 2005 the interim album Zenology 2 was released in Japan by Toshiba / EMI and in Europe by MTM. In May 2005 Michael Flexig separated from the band Zeno after the release because he did not agree with this release in the present form.

In spring / summer 2008 he worked on Uli Jon Roth's album "Under A Dark Sky" (release: August 22, 2008).

In January 2011, Flexig's current solo album "World of Tomorrow" (produced by Zeno Roth) was released worldwide on Fertility Records, USA.

In recent years he has been seen and heard on numerous live performances with his band Six In The Dancehouse . He also wrote songs with former Zeno member Ule W. Ritgen and worked in the recording studio. He received an invitation from the Erfurt group Seven Seals to take part in their NDW Goes Industrial project . This resulted in the album "Deutsche Welle 2.0", which was released on March 9, 2012 on Timezone Records. It contains u. a. the NDW classic Puppen Don't Cry, which Flexig has included in a new version.

Since 2008 Michael Flexig has also been a radio presenter a . a. active for RMNradio and RauteMusik , as well as speaker, off-speaker and editor.

2015-2020

In April 2015 Michael Flexig released a new album on the Yellow-Snake-Records label as Michael Flexig presenta combo Colossale e Amici . It contains the complete band discography of the early 1980s and four new songs, some of which were written with the help of Geier- Sturzflug front man Friedel Geratsch . The album is called Porto Allegro . Michael Flexig took part as a guest singer on a Japan tour on the occasion of the Uli Jon Roth Triple Anniversary World Tour 2019 . Then the album Michael Flexig - The Voice of ZENO: Keeper Of The Flame was released on the Ward Records label by Sony Music Japan . On the day of its release (December 27, 2019) it reached the top position for album sales in the hard rock / heavy metal category and remained in the Japanese TOP 10 for several weeks.
