Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration
The Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration was released in November 2001 by the CBS Television Network as a two-hour special to mark Michael Jackson's thirtieth anniversary as a solo entertainer. His first solo single, Got To Be There, was released 30 years earlier, in 1971. The recordings consist of two concerts that took place on September 7th and September 10th, 2001 in New York's Madison Square Garden . The tickets were sold out within 5 hours. The prizes became some of the most expensive in pop history: the best seats were $ 20,000 . In addition to the concert, these tickets also included dinner with Jackson.
Reportedly, Jackson made $ 7.5 million per concert, which is over $ 150,000 for every minute. A few hours before the show started, Marlon Brando appeared to talk about humanitarian work; however, this was not broadcast due to the poor response from the audience.
